December 22, 2023, from 6pm-8pm
Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Feliz Navidad, Happy Kwanza, Joyeux Noël, Mele Kalikimaka or Bah Humbug! No matter what Season’s Greeting you prefer, please join your neighbors in celebrating this most blessed, festive, and wonderful time of year with caroling in every East Garrison neighborhood on Friday evening, December 22nd from 6pm to 8pm.
Empty your oatmeal into a sealable container (or make cookies with it) and grab a wooden spoon. You now have a makeshift drum for accompanying the Little Drummer Boy. Bring along some sleigh bells (or any bell of your choice) for accompanying Jingle Bells and/or for jingling all the way. If you play guitar, or a horn or flute, or any other portable instrument, please come and share your talent in accompanying your group as they sing Silent Night or the Twelve Days of Christmas…. If it turns out that your group has no musical instruments when you gather, simply bring up an instrumental version of each song on someone’s smart phone and sing along.
The community has been divided into 10 “neighborhoods” with a designated gathering place for each below. Please plan to meet up with fellow carolers at your neighborhood’s gathering place between 6pm and 6:10pm. Then set out caroling from there, following the mapped-out route through your neighborhood, stopping at suggested places along the way to share various carols from the song sheets you have downloaded to your tablet or printed and brought with you.
If you can’t join us in caroling, please signal your enthusiastic support by turning on your porch light and coming to your front window or door or porch and encouraging us with your beautiful smiling faces. Please sing along with us and/or share a holiday greeting as we continue merrily on our way - until we end up back at our original gathering place.
Please dress warmly, in layers. Bring along a flashlight to help illuminate the song sheets and make you more visible to drivers. Also bring drinking water or hot chocolate in an insulated bottle to help keep you hydrated. Wagons, wheelchairs, and strollers are welcome.
